Carolina Grills

The Monkey Boy's BBQ Competition Cooking Team was established in 2006. The original team consists of Rusty Painter (Head Monkey), Russ Painter, Al Nooft and Ginger Painter.

We only competed in one contest during the 2006 season, The National BBQ Festival. This festival invites the best cooking teams from across the nation to enter, so with this being our first contest we were hoping to just learn the ropes of competition cooking and get a few pointers from the more experienced teams. We ended up placing 10th in Ribs, and 24th out of 67 teams. Not too bad for our first time up to bat, in one of the most prestigious contests in America.

The 2007 season promises to be a wild ride for the Monkey Boy's BBQ Cooking Team. Check this page often to find out where we will be next, and how we are doing on the circuit.

Our Cooker

Our cooker was built by Mike Lau at Carolina Grills in Piedmont, SC. In my opinion, Mike produces some of the finest cookers available. Our cooker has a 5ft.x3ft. cooking grate, 2 high pressure gas burners under the hood, 2 gas burners on the outside for pots, and a large firebox for burning wood.
